It was amazing to have my sister visiting us from Durban last week. Nice to spend some quality time with her and for her to see how much Bailey has grown. On Wednesday I went met my mom and sister at Cafe Mozart just off Long Street – divine little place. The weather was perfect, too.

bailey's first birthday

This Saturday we celebrated our baby girl's first birthday. She's turning one on 9 Sept but we had the party this weekend because my sister and her husband were here from Durban. The party was in Tokai Forest - such a lovely setting and the weather was divine. Everyone seemed to have a good time, especially Bailey who had way too much sugar for my liking and insisted on crawling around in the dirt in her party outfit. Sigh.

My ridiculously talented sister made the cake. It's a sponge cake with fondant icing - my favourite part is the bunting with Bailey's name! If you live in Durbz, check out The Cookie Cutter for party cakes, weddings, cupcakes and more.

Every little detail is handmade, down to the tiny daisies!

The party packs for the kids.

Everybody singing happy birthday.

Me and the birthday girl.

I didn't get any great pics of B's outfit and this is right at the end of the day after she'd dribbled juice down her front and crawled like a maniac through the dirt. But those are little harem pants she's wearing and the vest has a sequined heart - so cute! At this stage she was just about ready to pass out, hence the serious stare.

I like working in magazines. In SA, it's such a small industry and sometimes, if you're lucky, the team you work in become a close knit bunch of friends. My first job in magazines was at seventeen, and these fabulous ladies were all there with me at one point or another. It's a good feeling – like a cliched, warm fuzzy feeling – to think about the influence that each of these awesome woman have had on my life in their own special way.
Some of us have moved on to other mags, some of us now freelance and some of us are still flying the seventeen flag, but we all have one thing in common... we love fashion and we love Saturday morning brunch. So I had to take a pic of all us at Caveau last Saturday...
