valentino for gap
To celebrate the first Gap store opening in Milan, Italy this week, the creative directors from Valentino created a limited edition collection consisting of seven completely cool pieces. Think Gap basics – like parkas, skirts, cargo pants, T-shirts and hoodies – reinvented with a Valentino twist with ruffles, bows and tiers.
The exclusive collection will be available in Gap's new store in Milan, Colette in Paris and Gap's flagship store in London's Oxford Street.
I want this cropped ruffled hoodie more than anything!

rock me again
If you're in Jo'burg and Cape Town, and you love fashion and coffee, then you'll like the Rock Me Again project.
In association with Jameson Irish Whiskey (as well as VISI, vida e caffe, M1 Management, Wembley Square and Between 10 and 5), the Rock Me Again project is a clever way to reinvent your old clothes and be more environmentally friendly. There are cardboard bins at various vida's in Cape Town (Kloof St, Wembley Square and Green Point) and Jo'burg (Greenside and 24 Central Sandton) for you to drop off your old clothes, and the idea is that some of SA's leading designers will recreate something new from them.
There will be an online exhibition of the process captured by photographer Sivan Miller which we'll find out more about on 1 December.

denim forever
The bottom line is that denim will never die... and this season it's being reinvented in a number of ways. Think faded slim-fit jeans at Thakoon, sporty waistcoats at Roland Mouret and new-length shorts at Stella McCartney. I quite like the Stella shorts, but think I may end up looking a bit stumpy if I had to attempt this style.

the future is bright
On Saturday night I went to the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion end of year grad show.
It delivered 16 vastly different collections, some which had me desperate to get my hands on them, good job I got the contact details of each graduate in my goodie bag!
We wish them loads of luck as they to forth and make it happen.

to whom it may concern
Tonight we went to Field Office in town to view the new installation by Michelle Son entitled To Whom It May Concern. Of course, there were loads of stylish people swanning about. And the artist herself looked fantastic!
Clothes Swop Party
So Emily and I have been wanting to do this for so long, and we've finally arranged a date. When you think Clothes Swop Party, the first thing that springs to mind is people bringing all their old junk that they don't wear anymore, and to be honest, neither would you!
Well, the I Heart Your Outfit Clothes Swop will be different. We want you to bring up to five items (be that clothes, shoes, bags, accessories) that you still love but just don't wear anymore – maybe because it never really suited you, or doesn't fit you anymore. There's bound to be a fellow fashion lover out there who will be the perfect match.
So this is the chance to meet new people and spend an afternoon drinking bubbly, trying on new clothes and just generally having fun.
When: Saturday 27 November, 2-4pm
Where: Welgelegen Boutique Guest House
Cost: R60 (proceeds will go towards Christmas gifts for the kids at Christine Revell Children's Home)
RSVP: Emily and Liza theletterbox@ymail.com

emma watson's star style
She's come a long way since being the nervous 11-year-old on the red carpet of her first Harry Potter premier.
Last night at the Leicester Square premiere of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows - Part 1, Emma Watson looked amazing in a black vintage dress by Rafael Lopez for Atelier Mayer and heels by Charlotte Olympia.

interactive beauty at Edgars
Last week we went to the launch of the Estee Lauder Companies' new interactive beauty counters at the Edgars store at the Waterfront in Cape Town. It was great to mingle with bloggers and beauty journos and find out what the brands are doing to make their counters as interactive and user-friendly as possible.
The four brands – Clinique, Bobbi Brown, Estee Lauder and La Mer – have given their counters a super sexy makeover, with the emphasis being on interaction.
At Estee Lauder, each product range is displayed clearly for the consumer, plus each range has a take-home booklet for customers to peruse in their own time. The consultants are expertly trained and are there to help you decide on the best solution for your skin – there's also a nice, comfy couch to sit on while the consultant talks with you.
Clinique pride themselves on customer service, but they know that when you just feel like browsing on your own to leave you be.
Their make-up counter offers a wide range of foundations, lipsticks, lipglosses etc where the trained consultants are happy to help you find the perfect colour or shade. You can also ask for samples to try at home.
At the Bobbi Brown counter, you're given the option of having your make-up done by one of the experts – it's a definite must! There are so many fabulous goodies at this counter, you just have to spend some time browsing here.
At La Mer, the counter is smaller but the name speaks for itself. We were given heavenly hand massages and had our make-up refreshed with a face mister. We were literally glowing afterwards!

www.spence.co.za
Last week we went to the launch of a fab new platform for local designers. Spence is a online fashion store that features some of our favourite designers and their unique, bespoke pieces.
The designers currently featured on Spence are Christopher Strong, Selfi, Adriaan Kuiters, Margot Molyneux, Take Care, Steffany Roup and Missibaba.
Lets hope Father Christmas is internet savvy as we so know what we're asking him for this year...

urban cool
We spotted this fabulous outfit at the Estee Lauder Companies function last week at the Edgars store at the V&A Waterfront (more about that in another post). Back to the outfit... love the feminine utility jacket, the ripped jeans with the small roll up and her gorgeous manicure.
carey mulligan, we heart your style
Carey Mulligan beat the likes of Victoria Beckham, Kate Moss and Yasmin Le Bon to be named the Best Dressed Woman of the Year by Harper's Bazaar magazine.
Designer Erdem Moralioglu, who was on the judging panel, described her style as, 'So Sixties French New Wave - like a Godard starlet - but totally modern.' Couldn't have said it better ourselves.

forever 21
We love the clothing brand Forever 21. It's US launch showcased a collection of fresh and quirky styles. It's unashamedly bohemian, but delivers with a modern twist.
Amber Le Bon is the new face of the brand, which will be launching in the UK on 12 November.

the urban turban
Has quite a ring to it. Channelling the style of silver screen legends such as Greta Garbo and Elizabeth Taylor, not to mention Coco Chanel the turban, with the latest incarnation in leather, is popping up all over the show. Salma Hayek wore one to Paris Fashion Week and Kate Moss was seen in a gold version at the Costume Institute Gala.
We're not quite sure how it would look while pushing a trolley around Pick n Pay, but didn't we say that about wet look leggings and gladiator sandals, way back when...
